Film is a powerful tool for the transmission of cultural values. It can be used as propaganda, an educational medium, a vehicle of cultural identity and a sparkplug for commerce and economic expansion.
Here at Del-York, it is our goal to utilize all aspects that film offers.
We provide services ranging from the minutely detailed, such as media consultancy, to the global-in-scope, such as country branding, and everything in between including advertising, film production, events planning, digital design and broadcast communication.
Nigeria has plenty to offer, but due to perceptions, both true and misconceived, the rest of the world has been hesitant to inquire. We will provide a means to establish and maintain a connection between Nigeria and the world, a connection that will be enriching and beneficial to all involved. And we will do this through the power and scope of filmmaking.
In spite of the infrastructural challenges facing Nigeria, the country has generated a thriving film industry, the second largest in the world and one that out-produces every other country save India. But while the sheer numbers exceed all other film industries, the quality of Nigerian films remains in its infancy.
Due to the popularity and subsequent success of videocassettes, the Nigerian Film Industry has risen to great heights through home entertainment, giving birth to what is known as Nollywood. The vast majority of the industry for the last 20 years, while indigenously successful, has produced films hastily made in homes and offices, on microscopic budgets. While these movies focus on stories that resonate with local audiences, the rest of the world has begun to take notice as well.
There has never been a more opportune moment to seize upon this groundswell of success and budding interest. As the sole representative of New York Film Academy in Nigeria, we here at Del-York are building a new breed of filmmakers and creating career paths for them ensuring that any product that comes out of our company becomes a statement, a personal testimony to what it is we are doing.
We are interested in making films for immediate gratification, films that reignite the latent cinematic gifts that Nigerians have, films that explore Nigerian culture and art, films that dare to challenge for Academy Awards, and above all else, films that at their very core inspire.
